This Month (June 2011) on Socially Conscious

Things are heating up.

The Socially Conscious Blog team is expanding and so is our site. June has been a busy month for us behind the scenes with setting up our newest website: Socially Conscious Arabia

Socially Conscious Arabia

Our goal at Socially Conscious Arabia is to raise awareness for the many social entrepreneurs, initiatives and causes doing exceptional jobs in the Middle East using the web to make a positive impact on the Arabian world.

In similar fashion to the way we’ve done on The Socially Conscious Blog, the articles will give you a synopsis of what the organizations are all about, how they work, what kind of impact their having and how you can connect with them.

We’ve already had the chance to sit down and have a conversation with a few of them, so make sure you check out our video interviews over the upcoming weeks.

For our first “official” Socially Conscious Arabia article, we had the opportunity to sit down with Giorgio Ungania (curator of TEDxDubai)

TEDxDubaiGiorgio also mentors many of the TEDx conferences in the region (TEDxAjman, TEDxAlAin, TEDxAUS), was a speaker at TEDxMuscat, a TEDYou speaker at TEDGlobal 2010 and TED Active 2011. If that’s not enough, he is currently working on the production of TEDxTehran|Kish 2011 and the upcoming TEDxDubai 2011. …check out our interview >>

We were also fortunate enough to cover Dubai for Acumen’s “Social Entrepreneurship: The Social Impact Event

Dubai for AcumenThe occasion showcased some of the social entrepreneurs from the region, and was highlighted by a panel discussion on the topic: moderated by Rama Chakaki (Baraka Ventures) and led by Jacqueline Novogratz (founder & CEO of Acumen Fund). Overall the energy of the event surrounding the topic of “Social Entrepreneurship” was amazing…check out our pre & post event updates >>

Kudos to Alex and Lyndon

We’d like to thank Alex Latimer for coming through (once again) for us and updating the site’s fantastic graphics in order to keeping it consistent with our main blog. A huge thanks also goes out to Lyndon Fernandes, who helped us develop the updated website.

Our main TSCB article of the month also happens to be on Acumen Fund

Acumen Fund LogoAcumen Fund itself is a venture capital non-profit (founded by Jacqueline Novogratz), aimed at solving poverty through business, innovation, and by providing dignity and choice for the poor.

This story begins with Jacqueline Novogratz’s favourite blue sweater …Read on >>
